The League Participates in the Palestine Committee Meeting Within the Proceedings of the Conference of the PUIC

A delegation from the League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds and Palestine, headed by the President of the League, Mr. Hamid bin Abdullah Al-Ahmar, participated in the fourteenth meeting of the Permanent Committee on Palestine, within the framework of the twentieth session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), held in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku.

The participating League delegation includes, alongside the President of the League, the Director-General Dr. Mohammad Makram Balawi, and the Head of the Media Department, Eng. Omar Boutaleb.

The fourteenth meeting of the Permanent Committee on Palestine witnessed an extensive discussion on a number of pivotal political draft resolutions related to the Palestinian cause. These included the role of Islamic parliaments in confronting Zionist plans aimed at the Judaization of the city of Jerusalem, discussing ways to counter the escalating pace of violations and attacks by Israeli occupation forces, the growing settlement activity in occupied Palestine, and demanding an international investigation into the crimes and violations committed by the Israeli occupation against Palestinian prisoners.

The meeting presented the ruling of the "Gaza Tribunal," a civil initiative established by academics and legal scholars from around the world to document the genocide in Gaza, based on a request submitted by the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.

During the meeting, the League's delegation followed up on the proposed draft resolutions, one of which is guided by the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice issued in September 2024 regarding the illegality of the Israeli occupation and settlement in the Palestinian territory and the necessity of its termination.

The resolutions also called for an end to the apartheid system and strongly condemned the campaigns of arbitrary administrative detention affecting thousands of people of the Palestinian nation.

The deliberations also touched upon supporting the struggle of the Palestinian people to preserve the status of Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) and its historical, Arab, and Islamic character, in addition to discussing a draft resolution condemning Israeli violations in the occupied Arab territories in Syria and Lebanon.

The participation of the League's delegation in the conference comes to enhance its institutional presence, expand the network of relations supporting the Palestinian cause, and discuss opportunities for joint cooperation with regional and international parliaments.

In this context, the President of the League, Mr. Hamid bin Abdullah Al-Ahmar, emphasized the extreme importance of this session, explaining that it comes at a pivotal juncture that the cause of the Palestinian people is passing through, in light of the continuation of the war of genocide in the Gaza Strip and the efforts of Judaization in the occupied city of Jerusalem.

He explained that the participation aims to "activate the role of Islamic parliamentary diplomacy to confront the ongoing aggression on Gaza and protect Jerusalem and the holy sites."

Al-Ahmar continued, saying: "We are striving to follow up on all resolutions and recommendations issued by the Union, to ensure they are transformed into practical steps supporting the steadfastness of the Palestinian people, and to expand the network of parliamentary alliances defending their legitimate rights."
