The League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine Commends the Joint Statement by Eight Countries Condemning the Closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Warns of the Dangers of This Precedent

The League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine commends the joint statement issued by eight Arab and Islamic countries, which strongly condemned the decision of the Israeli occupation authorities to close the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque to worshippers. The League considers this a dangerous step that violates the sanctity of one of Islam’s holiest sites and constitutes an attack on Muslims’ right to worship.

The League stresses that the closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, represents a serious historical precedent that must not pass without a firm response from Arab and Islamic countries and the international community. It emphasizes the urgent need to reopen the mosque to worshippers before the 27th day of Ramadan, given its great religious significance for Muslims around the world.

The League believes that these measures constitute a grave violation of the sanctity and historical and religious status of Al-Aqsa Mosque. It also warns that such actions may serve as a prelude to policies aimed at the Judaization of the holy sites in Jerusalem, especially as the mosque has been closed to Muslim worshippers while settlers have been allowed to storm its courtyards.

The League further affirms that preventing worshippers from accessing Al-Aqsa Mosque and performing their religious rituals there constitutes a clear violation of freedom of worship as guaranteed by international conventions. It also deeply offends the feelings of millions of Muslims worldwide who share a profound religious and historical bond with Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The League calls on Arab and Islamic countries to adopt serious positions to prevent the recurrence of such violations, emphasizing the importance of parliamentary action in expressing the will of peoples and supporting international efforts aimed at protecting religious holy sites and upholding the principles of international law and human rights.

The League also welcomes the unified position expressed by the eight countries—the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the State of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Türkiye, the Republic of Indonesia, and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan—considering it a reflection of growing awareness of the dangers facing the holy sites in Jerusalem and an important step toward strengthening international efforts to protect Al-Aqsa Mosque.
