November 25, 2025Al-Ahmar calls on the African Union to permanently include Palestine as an agenda item in African parliaments
The President of the League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine, Mr. Hamid bin Abdullah Al-Ahmar, called on the African Parliamentary Union and the parliaments of the continent to take a firm and clear stance against the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, reject any projects that undermine Palestinian sovereignty, support the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with its capital in Jerusalem.
Mr. Hamid demanded, during a speech distributed at the forty-seventh session of the Union, the urgent holding of an international conference to rebuild Gaza, hold war criminals accountable, and permanently include the Palestinian cause on the agendas of African parliaments.
He stressed that just peace can only be achieved by ending the occupation, lifting the siege, stopping the war, and immediately starting reconstruction, calling for a practical vision to establish the Palestinian state within a period not exceeding three years, rejecting any external guardianship over Gaza, and supporting the formation of an independent Palestinian administration representing the will of the people away from external pressures and interventions.
In his speech, he continued, "Palestine does not seek the impossible, it only seeks justice, freedom, dignity, and independence, as African peoples have achieved before. From the heart of the continent that defeated colonization, we raise our voices high: freedom for Palestine, freedom for Gaza, freedom for all oppressed peoples of the world."
The League's participation in the Union conference comes as part of its continuous parliamentary and diplomatic efforts to enhance solidarity with the Palestinian people in various international forums, following a series of meetings with African delegations that focused on supporting the African position in confronting the aggression on Gaza and activating joint parliamentary cooperation to support the Palestinian cause politically, legislatively, and humanely.
