League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds and Palestine Condemns Israeli Piracy and Assault on the "Steadfastness Flotilla"

The League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds and Palestine condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the act of maritime piracy and organized state terrorism carried out by the Israeli occupation naval forces. This follows their brutal attack and illegal interception of the peaceful and solidarity-based "Steadfastness Flotilla" at dawn this Thursday.

This blatant assault on civilian vessels—carrying humanitarian aid, peace activists, parliamentarians, and international figures—represents a dangerous escalation and an infringement that falls under war crimes, necessitating immediate accountability.

The League emphasizes that the occupation’s siege and storming of an unarmed civilian flotilla is a flagrant violation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, international treaties guaranteeing freedom of navigation, the 1988 Rome Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against the Safety of Maritime Navigation, and the Fourth Geneva Convention and its First Additional Protocol, which mandate absolute protection for civilians and humanitarian relief convoys.

This aggressive behavior reflects the state of confusion and isolation experienced by the occupation state, as well as its desperate attempts to impose an international blackout on the war of genocide, entrench the suffocating and inhumane siege on the Gaza Strip, and prevent any free international attempt to break it or deliver relief to besieged civilians.

The League holds the Israeli occupation government fully legally and criminally responsible for the safety and lives of all solidarity activists, participants, and parliamentarians on board the flotilla. It calls upon the United Nations, the Security Council, and the International Maritime Organization to intervene urgently and immediately to release the ships and their passengers, and to provide them with international protection to ensure they reach their humanitarian destination.

The League urges parliaments—particularly those whose citizens or members are participating in this flotilla—to take firm positions and deterrent diplomatic measures against the occupation government. We stress that international silence regarding acts of piracy in international waters is what encourages the occupation state to persist in its total disregard for all laws and humanitarian norms.

The League underscores that the only true path to peace lies in the immediate and comprehensive lifting of the unjust siege on the Gaza Strip and enabling the Palestinian people to obtain their full legitimate rights, foremost of which is the right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state.
