The League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine Warns of the Dangers of Escalation in the Region and Calls for a Unified Arab and Islamic Position to Protect Stability

The League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine strongly condemns the military aggression carried out by the United States and Israel against both Iran and Lebanon, and the grave risks it poses to the security and stability of the region. The League warns that these developments carry serious consequences that could expand the scope of the conflict and ignite a comprehensive regional confrontation.

The League notes that the dangerous escalation currently unfolding in the region coincides with unprecedented attacks by the Israeli occupation on the occupied city of Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites. The occupation authorities continue to close the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to worshippers, while at the same time opening the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound to incursions by settlers, exploiting the atmosphere of regional escalation to advance their plans targeting Jerusalem and its sacred sites.

The League believes that this military aggression constitutes a blatant violation of the principles of international law and the rules of the United Nations Charter, which prohibit the use or threat of force in international relations. It also represents a dangerous step that could deepen instability in the region at a time when its peoples are already suffering from worsening humanitarian, political, and economic crises.

The League commends the responsible positions expressed by a number of Arab and Islamic countries that have rejected being drawn into military confrontation or participating in the American-Israeli aggression against Iran. These positions reflect a deep awareness of the dangers of escalation and a commitment to protecting the security and stability of the region while avoiding pushing it toward open conflicts. The League also stresses the importance of sparing the countries of the region from any attacks that could increase tensions and of preserving relations of cooperation among them, in a way that contributes to de-escalation and prevents attempts aimed at dragging the region into further wars and conflicts.

The League warns that this escalation cannot be separated from the strategic objectives of the United States and Israel in the region, which seek to reshape the regional balance of power in a manner that serves Israeli interests and opens the door to expanding its influence and consolidating policies of dominance.

The League affirms that the continuation of wars and the expansion of arenas of confrontation essentially serve the expansionist ambitions of the Israeli occupation in the region under what is referred to as the “Greater Israel” project, which is based on Israeli dominance and the undermining of the stability of surrounding states. This, the League stresses, requires a unified and conscious Arab and Islamic stance to confront these policies and prevent their imposition by force.

The League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine also emphasizes the importance of activating parliamentary diplomacy as an effective tool for confronting the aggressive policies of the Israeli occupation. It calls on the parliaments of Arab and Islamic countries to assume a greater role in strengthening the positions of their states and to work through regional and international parliamentary channels to prevent the expansion of aggression and conflict in the region.

The League calls for holding an emergency session of the parliaments of member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab Parliament in order to formulate a joint parliamentary vision to confront the American-Zionist plans that aim to drag the region into successive wars and conflicts, serving projects of dominance and fueling the ambitions associated with the so-called “Greater Israel” plan.

The League stresses that the region needs paths for dialogue and political solutions, not more wars, and that preserving regional security and stability requires adherence to international law, respect for state sovereignty, and efforts to address the root causes of crises rather than deepen them.
