December 7, 2025Parliamentarians Call for Legislative and Diplomatic Action to Confront Ethnic Cleansing in Palestine
The League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine, in partnership with the International Islamic Forum of Parliamentarians, organized a seminar entitled “Parliamentary Solidarity with Palestine in a Time of Ethnic Cleansing.” The event was attended by members of parliament, legal experts, and parliamentarians from several countries.
The seminar was opened by the League’s Secretary-General, Dr. Mohammad Makram Balawi, who presented the themes of the meeting and the speakers, stressing the importance of holding the seminar in light of the current circumstances marked by a dangerous escalation against the Palestinian people.
For his part, Dr. Abdelmajid Manasra, President of the International Islamic Forum of Parliamentarians, said that “the battle today is a battle of awareness that requires serious parliamentary struggle focusing on the political track, economic boycott, and confronting normalization.”
Palestinian Legislative Council member Ismail al-Ashqar stressed that normalization is not a passing political agreement, but a project to reshape Arab identity and dissolve the centrality of Palestine. He affirmed that parliamentarians are the legislative line of defense and the last line of awareness, because protecting the Palestinian cause is not the task of governments alone, but the responsibility of the representatives of the peoples, who, through legislation, oversight, and awareness, can bring down the normalization project and prove that Palestine is the compass and the eternal right of the nation.
Jordanian MP Huda Al-Atoum confirmed that the accelerating wave of normalization in the region represents a strategic danger to the Palestinian cause and to Arab national security. She noted that normalization is no longer merely political agreements, but has become an attempt to change the direction of Arab consciousness through education, media, economy, and culture.
Al-Atoum warned that normalization grants legitimacy to the occupation, strengthens settlement activity and the Judaization of Jerusalem, weakens the resistance, and allows the occupation to penetrate Arab countries in intelligence and economic terms, in addition to attempts to impose the Zionist narrative on new generations. She stressed that confronting normalization is a legislative and popular responsibility, and that parliament will continue its role in protecting the Palestinian cause and confronting any attempts to breach the Jordanian national position.
Former Algerian MP Abdelrazzak Mokri called on lawmakers to make use of their parliamentary immunity and their political and media capabilities by issuing statements, declarations, raising awareness, and making media appearances. He emphasized the need to enact laws criminalizing normalization in all its forms, tighten parliamentary oversight, participate in legal and diplomatic committees, and lead popular activities.
Indonesian MP Shahar Al-Eid Maazat, head of foreign relations in parliament, said that more than 120 institutions working for Palestine operate under the umbrella of the Indonesian parliament, and stressed the importance of parliamentary support for humanitarian, political, and diplomatic movements in support of the rights of the Palestinian people.
Egyptian MP Dr. Mohamed Al-Fiqi emphasized the role of governments and international and regional parliamentary organizations in supporting Palestinian rights, calling for launching new parliamentary initiatives and actions to support the Palestinian people in their quest for self-determination.
Mauritanian MP Sheikhani Ould Beibeh spoke about the importance of oversight and accountability within parliaments, criminalizing normalization and rejecting related agreements, and working to pass boycott legislation, in addition to the media and economic roles that MPs can play in support of Palestine.
Lawyer Hussein Ammar briefed the participating MPs on a legal initiative that resulted in the issuance of arrest warrants against 30 Israelis by the Turkish public prosecution for their involvement in the war of extermination on the Gaza Strip. He pointed out that “two years of systematic genocide have led to the complete collapse of the Israeli narrative,” and called for generalizing this initiative in other countries.
Algerian MP Ahmed Sadouk also called for using local laws to open investigations and issue arrest warrants against war criminals and perpetrators of genocide, stressing the importance of legal and human rights documentation and halting the supply of weapons to the occupation.
The seminar included interventions from a number of MPs and participating figures, who stressed the necessity of confronting normalization, supporting the steadfastness of the Palestinian people, and lifting the siege on the Gaza Strip.
