Issued by the League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine regarding the recent Security Council decision on Gaza
The League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine reaffirms that dealing with international laws and references should not be selective or subject to temporary political considerations, as the rights of the Palestinian people are established under the United Nations Charter, international legitimacy decisions, and the rules of international humanitarian law, and cannot be circumvented or bypassed under any pretext.
As the League closely monitors the Security Council decision on Gaza, it emphasizes that any decision that contradicts the provisions of the UN Charter, or undermines the inherent right of the Palestinian people to defend themselves against occupation, or diminishes their inalienable right to freedom, self-determination, and the establishment of their independent state on their entire land, is a decision that cannot lead to genuine peace or lasting stability.
The League asserts that attempts to reshape the Palestinian reality through imposing security or political arrangements that override Palestinian national will, or ignore the occupation and its policies, will only result in more tension and absence of justice, and that the path to peace begins with ending the occupation, lifting the siege on Gaza, and achieving full Palestinian rights without fragmentation.
The League calls on the international community to respect the principles of international justice and not to use double standards, and to ensure the implementation of decisions that guarantee the protection of civilians and hold the occupation accountable for its crimes, and to support the Palestinian people's right to freedom and independence, as the sole basis for any serious efforts to achieve security and stability in the region, lift the siege on Gaza, and ensure reconstruction.
