The League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine welcomes the international recognition of the State of Palestine and calls for practical steps to stop the genocide in Gaza

The League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine welcomes the decisions of several countries to recognize the State of Palestine, considering it an important development in the path of achieving justice for the Palestinian people and securing their legitimate national rights, foremost among them their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state with its capital in Jerusalem.

The League emphasizes that these recognitions, symbolically and politically important as they are, are not sufficient in the face of what the Palestinian people in Gaza are enduring, including a genocidal war and documented war crimes against innocent civilians. The required international stance today goes beyond formal recognition to explicit acknowledgment that what is happening in Gaza is a complete genocide that necessitates urgent and binding intervention from the international community.

The League stresses that the credibility of these recognitions is measured by the practical steps accompanying them, including imposing political and economic sanctions on the Israeli occupation to halt its aggression, banning the export of weapons and military equipment used by the occupation to kill civilians and destroy their homes over their heads, and immediately lifting the blockade imposed on Gaza, and opening crossings to allow permanent and unrestricted humanitarian aid.

The League calls on those countries and their parliaments to align their political positions with practical initiatives in parliamentary arenas, by using the available oversight and legislative tools, adopting clear resolutions that criminalize dealing with the occupation, supporting the resilience of the Palestinian people, and increasing pressure to stop the massacres and lift the blockade.

The League emphasizes that any talk of a just peace will be meaningless unless the aggression stops immediately, civilian lives are protected, the blockade is lifted, and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including freedom, independence, and the establishment of their independent state with its capital in Jerusalem, are recognized.
