Press Release by the League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine on the 77th Anniversary of the Nakba

Press Release by the League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine on the 77th Anniversary of the Nakba

On the seventy-seventh anniversary of the Nakba, the League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine recalls the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian people since 1948, when hundreds of thousands were uprooted from their land, their cities and villages were destroyed, and a colonial entity was established on their ruins—one that continues to implement policies of displacement and ethnic cleansing.

This painful anniversary comes amid the continued Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, where the Palestinian people are being subjected to a brutal war of extermination, alongside escalating repression and forced displacement in the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem.

Recognizing its moral and political responsibility as a platform representing the voice of the people in international forums, the League affirms the following:

  • Condemnation of all Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and occupied Jerusalem, considering them war crimes that require international accountability and prosecution.

  • Effective and practical action to stop the genocidal war in Gaza, lift the blockade, reconstruct the Strip, and strengthen the resilience of its people.

  • Support for independent international investigations into war crimes committed against Palestinian civilians, and ensuring that those responsible are tried before international courts.

  • Call for economic and diplomatic sanctions against the occupying state as a necessary step to halt its ongoing violations and hold its leaders accountable.

  • Strengthening international parliamentary solidarity with the Palestinian people by launching initiatives that support their steadfastness and expose the reality of the crimes committed against them.

  • Reaffirming the right of return for Palestinian refugees, in accordance with UN General Assembly Resolution 194 of December 11, 1948, which states the necessity of allowing refugees wishing to return to their homes to do so, and of providing compensation for the property of those who choose not to return, as well as for any loss or damage suffered, when such compensation is due according to the principles of international law and equity, to be paid by the governments or authorities responsible.

  • Activating parliamentary diplomacy in favor of Palestine through continued engagement with parliamentarians in countries supporting the occupation, and revealing the truth of Israeli crimes through organized visits and joint meetings.

The Nakba is not merely a chapter from the past, but an ongoing episode of Palestinian suffering. Therefore, the League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine calls upon all free parliamentarians around the world to assume their moral and humanitarian responsibilities, to work by all available means to stop the crimes of the occupation, and to defend the Palestinian people's rights to freedom, dignity, and justice.
