July 24, 2026Imprisoned MP Nasser Abdel Jawad
Nasser Abdel Jawad is a Palestinian academic and politician who served as an elected member of the Palestinian Legislative Council representing Salfit Governorate on behalf of the Change and Reform Bloc affiliated with Hamas.
Born in 1966 in Deir Ballut, Salfit Governorate, he earned a Ph.D. in Islamic History from An-Najah National University and worked as a university lecturer before entering parliamentary life.
He was elected to the Palestinian Legislative Council in the 2006 Palestinian legislative elections to represent Salfit Governorate, where he participated in legislative and oversight responsibilities.
Throughout his parliamentary term, Israeli authorities repeatedly arrested him, sentencing him to prison and placing him under administrative detention on several occasions.
Having spent more than fifteen years in Israeli prisons, his case represents one of the prominent examples of the imprisonment of elected Palestinian parliamentarians and the continued targeting of Palestinian democratic representation.
