Issued by the League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine Regarding the Israeli Occupation's Decision to Ban UNRWA's Operations in the Occupied Territories
The League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine strongly condemns the Israeli occupation authorities' decision to prohibit the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) from operating in the occupied Palestinian territories. This decision is considered a serious escalation aimed at undermining the rights of Palestinian refugees and depriving them of the essential services provided by the agency, in blatant violation of international law and United Nations resolutions.
The League affirms that UNRWA plays a vital role in providing humanitarian, educational, and health assistance to millions of Palestinian refugees. Its prohibition represents a direct assault on their legitimate rights and a systematic attempt to liquidate their cause and erase their identity.
The League emphasizes that this decision is part of Israeli plans to Judaize Jerusalem and alter its demographic composition by restricting international institutions that serve Palestinians. This is contrary to international law and international legitimacy, particularly United Nations General Assembly Resolution 302, which established UNRWA and granted it an international mandate that the occupying authority cannot annul or undermine.
The League calls on the international community, the United Nations, and member states to take urgent action to reject this arbitrary decision and pressure the occupation to reverse it. It also urges parliaments in all countries to take clear positions against this unjust decision and support the continued operations of UNRWA to ensure that Palestinian refugees are not deprived of their basic rights.
