League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine Condemns the Decision of the Republic of Paraguay to Move Its Embassy to Occupied Jerusalem
The League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine condemns the decision of the President of the Republic of Paraguay, "Santiago Peña," to move his country's embassy to the city of occupied Jerusalem.
The League emphasizes that this dangerous decision represents a direct assault on the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and a disregard for the international consensus that calls for a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue based on international legitimacy. It is also a violation of international law, particularly United Nations Security Council Resolutions 476 and 478 from 1980 and Resolution 2334 from 2016, which urge countries not to establish diplomatic missions in the city of Jerusalem.
The League calls on Paraguayan parliamentarians to pressure their government to reverse this decision, which contradicts international law and relevant international legitimacy, and to work towards respecting international principles and laws while upholding the values of justice and peace. It also urges the international community to take urgent action to address this unjust decision and to work towards ending the Israeli occupation and maintaining the existing legal status in the city of occupied Jerusalem.
The League asserts that this decision, made amidst the ongoing genocide in Gaza, rewards the occupier for its crimes instead of holding it accountable and imposing sanctions. It is a clear acknowledgment of Israel's illegal annexation of the city.
