Issued by the League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine on the Anniversary of the Balfour Declaration

The League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine reaffirms, on the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, its steadfast position that this declaration constituted a historical crime and a blatant violation of the rights of the Palestinian people. It represented a painful turning point in the history of the region and laid the groundwork for a long trajectory of catastrophes, displacement, crises, and ongoing violations against Palestinians.

The League emphasizes that the coincidence of this painful anniversary with the ongoing genocide against Gaza, the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people, and the continuous assaults in the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem underscores the repercussions of this catastrophic declaration.

The League calls on the international community, and the British government in particular, to bear their moral and historical responsibilities towards the Palestinian people, to rectify this historical crime by enabling the Palestinian people to realize their legitimate rights to self-determination, freedom, and independence, to end the occupation, and to take real steps to achieve the long-awaited justice and atone for this historical mistake.
