On this day we commemorate the 29 people who were massacred during dawn prayers, at the al-Ibrahimi Mosque, by an extremist Israeli settler during the holy month of Ramadan in 1994.
Instead of bringing the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice, the Israeli occupation forces in Hebron pursued a policy of prosecution of the victims. After the massacre, Israeli forces seized several areas, divided the Ibrahimi mosque and granted Jews unfettered access and placed restrictions on Muslims to access their place of worship. These actions negatively impacted the right of the civilian population to movement and religious freedom after the division of Hebron by the occupation in 1967.
We, the LP4Q, call on the International Criminal Court, which has included in its jurisdiction crimes that occurred in the Palestinian territories, to hold those responsible for the crime in al-Ibrahimi Mosque accountable and to open the streets of the Old City in occupied Hebron, as these crimes do not have a statute of limitations.
