The League offers condolences to Al-Jazeera channel in Turkey for the martyrdom of Abu Aqleh

The League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds offered today, Tuesday, its condolences to Al-Jazeera channel in Turkey for the martyrdom of journalist Shereen Abu Aqleh.

The Vice President of the League, and the Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee in the Indonesian Parliament, MP Dr. Fazli Zon, Chairman of the Defense and Foreign Relations Committee of the Pakistani Senate, Senator Mushahid Hussain, and Director General of the League, Dr. Mohammad Makram Balawi.

The Vice-President of the League, Fadli Zon, stressed, during his speech, that the crime was intended to silence the Palestinian voice, noting that the Indonesian Parliament condemns the crime and calls on the world to hold its perpetrators accountable and to curb the occupation’s attacks against the Palestinian people.

For his part, Senator Mushahid Hussain explained that the killing of Shereen is a crime against humanity and against the press and journalists, and that the occupation should be punished for this, especially as she was wearing her official clothes for the press, criticizing the media that deliberately conveyed the news in a distorted manner and worked to hide the killer and attribute it to the unknown.

Hussein pointed out that those biased methods of the occupation described the crime as "death" and not "murder", surprising the double international standards in covering the Palestinian cause compared to covering events in the Russian-Ukrainian war, and in condemning the crime.

As for the Director General of the League, Dr. Mohammad Makram Balawi stressed that the assassination of Shereen Abu Aqleh is a heinous crime that represents a model for the Israeli occupation’s dealing with journalists in order to obliterate the facts on the ground, and not reveal its crimes against the Palestinian people, indicating that the League has communicated with parliaments and parliamentarians around the world to condemn the crime and put them in its image and call them to move to hold the occupation accountable.

He stressed that the execution is a crime against international laws and norms and a war crime with integrated pillars, which exposes the falsity of the occupation machine, which is trying to export a false narrative that occupation is a natural thing that must be accepted.

In turn, the director of Al Jazeera's office in Turkey, Abdel Azim Muhammad, thanked the league for offering its condolences, noting that Abu Aqleh was a very important and prominent journalist in Al Jazeera and has been working for 25 years in covering the crimes of the occupation in the occupied territories.

At the end of the meeting, Fadli Zon presented a gift from the League and the Indonesian Parliament to the channel's office in Turkey.
