MP Al-Khudari: 4 thousand housing units destroyed in Gaza and no funding for reconstruction

Jamal al-Khudari, an independent MP in the Palestinian Legislative Council (parliament), said that about 4,000 housing units were destroyed during the last Israeli war on the Gaza Strip in the summer of 2014, and there is no funding for reconstruction.
“Three years after the end of the Israeli aggression in 2014, there are 4,000 housing units in need of reconstruction and the population is still among the displaced,” said al-Khudari, head of the Popular Committee to Break the Siege on Gaza.
“The process of rebuilding destroyed houses in Gaza is proceeding slowly,” al-Khudari said. As a reference to the mechanism of entry of building materials to the sector.
“In addition to the lack of funding to build the remaining destroyed houses, they need about $ 200 million, because donors have not fully complied with their commitments at the donor conference in Cairo after the end of the aggression.” He continued.
Al-Khudari pointed out that the total number of houses destroyed by the recent Israeli war amounted to 11,000 housing units, of which only 5 thousand and 500 housing units were reconstructed.
The head of the Palestinian People’s Committee appealed to the donor countries to fulfill their obligations to rebuild the destroyed houses in Gaza, to alleviate the suffering of the citizens, who are still suffering the most.
Egypt and Norway organized an international conference for the reconstruction of Gaza in the Egyptian capital Cairo on October 12, 2014, pledging $ 5.4 billion to rebuild what Israel destroyed in its recent war.
