MP Mustafa Barghouthi, Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative Movement, received UN Secretary General Nikolai Mladenov and discussed with him the political developments and the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian people, especially in the Gaza Strip.

   The two sides expressed their deep concern that the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip suffer from the loss of the most basic elements of life, considering that it is not permissible for the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip to remain deprived of water and electricity, And the spread of unemployment and the continuation of the blockade.

   Barghouthi said that Israel is launching an attack on the Palestinian people, targeting all aspects of life and imposing discriminatory measures and racist separation. He pointed out that Israel oppresses the Palestinian people in various ways and tries to use international bodies to prevent him even from demanding his rights,

   Barghouthi said that the shortest way to deal with the dangerous situation in the Gaza Strip is to implement the decisions of the Beirut meeting of the Preparatory Committee of the National Council and to form a single national government that will fully unite the Palestinian institutions in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

   Barghouthi stressed that on the 50th anniversary of the Israeli occupation, it is the duty of all those who are keen on international law and human rights to stand by the Palestinian people and pressure on Israel in order to respond to human rights like the other peoples of the globe.
