AL-MARZOUKI: PALESTINIAN STRUGGLE STOPPED NORMALIZATION AND BROUGHT THE PALESTINIAN CAUSE BACK TO THE FORE

He added that this battle scattered the papers, stopped the scramble towards normalization, and brought the Palestinian cause back to center stage, and united the Palestinian people.

This came during a meeting on the Zoom platform, organized by the Yabous Foundation for Consultation and Strategic Studies, in partnership with the Political Science Department at the Arab American University.

The meeting, which was entitled “The future of the Palestinian cause in its regional and international dimensions in light of political changes in the region”, was moderated by Iyad Abu Zneit, a researcher at the Yabous Foundation, and was attended by a large number of interested people.

Al-Marzouki stressed that the battle of the “Sword of Jerusalem” achieved a moral and political victory, despite its heavy human and material cost.

He cautioned that it is a round of conflict with the occupation and not the last, because the occupation will not surrender easily.

He considered that the gift of the occupied Palestinians inside was very important, because it confused “Israel” and made it re-calculate, after it realized that the Palestinians had not abandoned their Palestinian identity, and that it was heading towards an apartheid regime that would be the last nail in its coffin.

He said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu committed a folly when he tried to play the Jerusalem card and Al-Aqsa Mosque, and discovered that he was playing with fire.

Al-Marzouki considered that the Palestinian cause and the Arab Spring revolutions are one battle in the face of external colonialism and internal tyranny.

He pointed out that the last ten years were the most difficult in the history of the Palestinian cause, and it seemed as if this issue was buried forever, especially after the American recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of “Israel” and the process of normalization by countries that conspired against the Arab Spring.

He added that the battle of the “Sword of Jerusalem” proved the error of these countries’ calculations, and the failure of their attempts to impose surrender on the Palestinians, especially after the Arab and Islamic peoples rose up and embraced the Palestinian cause.

He stressed the need to differentiate between the regimes that conspired against the Palestinian people, and the Arab peoples who have been struggling for more than a century for liberation from colonialism and tyranny.

Al-Marzouki called for caution and preparation, because the prospective Israeli government, which is based on a fragile coalition, may resort to launching a war on Iran or against the Palestinians in order to gain popularity and legitimacy.

He stressed the need to invest in this victory because the next stage is very difficult, and because the forces hostile to the Arab Spring will not surrender easily, and the issue for them is a matter of life or death.

He stressed the need to restore national unity so that the Palestinian cause is in a position of strength in front of the occupation, and in order to invest the unprecedented global sympathy with the Palestinian cause.

He added that this investment will not succeed without the existence of a national unity government produced by legitimate elections, calling for the return of democratic life.
