Mladenov: The United Nations is working to find a political solution to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza

The UN envoy for peace in the Middle East, Nikolai Mladenov, said the crisis in Gaza can be solved only through a compromise based on the implementation of “Palestinian-Palestinian” agreements that would end the division and return Gaza to the control of the legitimate authorities.
Mladenov said in a statement that the United Nations is working with all parties to find a political solution to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
He stressed that the Authority, Hamas and Israel bear commitments to the well-being of Gaza’s population and must fulfill their responsibilities.
Mladenov said that Qatar played an important role in resolving the conflicts in the region and the various regions. He pointed out that the Quatarian assistance to Gaza was crucial in saving the sector, especially in building new housing and infrastructure after it was destroyed by the 2014 war.
He stressed that the continuation of the policy of building and expanding settlements and their denial of Palestinian development is steadily weakening the possibility of a two-state solution.
He pointed out that there is a danger to the health of Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike, expressing the hope that a decision will be reached as soon as possible, and efforts to address the strike prisoners.
