Arab, African and European parliamentary efforts to support prisoners in Israeli jails

    Arab Parliament Speaker Meshaal Ben Fahm Al-Salami, Chairman of the Pan-African Parliament Roger Nkudu Dang and Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean Pedro Rocio from Midrand, South Africa, on Wednesday addressed letters to both the Speaker of the Britain House of Commons and the Speaker of the Americain House of Representatives to support the issue of Palestinian prisoners who hunger strike in Israeli jails.
    A joint statement was also issued by the President of the Arab Parliament and the President of the Pan-African Parliament to support the issue of the striking prisoners.
    The Arab Parliament announced in a statement from Cairo that this was the culmination of the efforts of the Arab Parliament to support the Palestinian cause, the first issue for Arabs. As The heads of parliaments who signed these joint letters represent more than 80 Arab, African and European countries.
    The joint letter, signed by the Speaker of the Arab Parliament, the Speaker of the Pan-African Parliament and the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, addressed to the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Berkau, calls on the House of Commons to ask the British Government to desist from commemorating the shameful Balfour Declaration for the sake of Palestinians, Arabs, Muslims and Christians feelings, And to make the Government of the United Kingdom apologize to the Palestinian people for its occupation, injustice and harm as a result of this ominous promise and recognition of an independent Palestinian State on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, so far recognized by 140 countries in the world.
    The other joint letter was addressed to US House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan and calls on the House of Representatives to ask the administration of US President Donald Trump to abandon the idea of moving the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to the occupied city of Jerusalem because of the serious repercussions that threaten the peace process in the Middle East, undermine the two-state solution supported globally and regionally, and the United States lose its role as an honest broker between the parties to the conflict.
     The statement issued by the President of the Arab Parliament and the President of the Pan-African Parliament, in the name of a statement of solidarity with the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, paid tribute to the Palestinian prisoners and appreciated their struggle and stand by them. They have been on hunger strike since 17 April 2017 because of the Israeli inhuman practices against them in Israeli prisons, demanding the occupying power to meet their demands, and respect international laws regarding the treatment of Palestinian prisoners.
