Launch of the 28th Arab Summit

    The 28th ordinary session of the Council of the Arab States League was launched at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Center in the Dead Sea area of Jordan on Wednesday with the participation of several kings, Emirs, Heads of State and Government and representatives of Arab countries.
    The Jordanian monarch, King Abdullah II, took the chairmanship of the Arab summit at its 28th ordinary session, the “Amman Summit”, from Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, chairman of the 27th ordinary session held in Nouakchott last year.
    The Summit is attended by The Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, the Secretary-General of the Islamic Conference Organization, the High Representative for the Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union, the President of the Arab Parliament, the Personal Envoy of the Russian President and the Personal Envoy of the United States President, In addition to the envoy of the French government.
   The launch of the summit under the title of “reconciliation and agreement” to discuss several files with the lack of anticipation of decisions on them except what may be announced on the Palestinian issue and the question of the settlement process.
   On the Palestinian issue, the Jordanian monarch pointed out that the Israeli occupation continues to expand settlements and undermine the chances of reaching a settlement, stressing that “there is no peace and stability in the region without a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, the central issue in the Middle East, “He said.
   he added: “Jordan is the closest to Palestine. The blood of our martyrs is still present on the three Palestinians. We are in direct contact with the suffering of the Palestinian people and our people in Jerusalem.”
   King Abdullah also said that “the Hashemite guardianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem is a historical responsibility that Jordan has the honor to carry on behalf of the Arab and Islamic nations.”
   He stressed the need to continue to confront any attempt to change the present status and stand up to temporal or spatial division attempts of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.
  He addressed the participants at the summit, saying: “You are the support of Jordan in this responsibility. We must work together to protect Jerusalem and to confront the attempts to impose a new reality. “
