Press Release issued by the League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine on the 76th Anniversary of the Nakba
Today, May 15, 2024, marks the 76th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba, which resulted in the dispersion of the Palestinian people, one of the oldest nations on Earth, and caused instability in the heart of the ancient world, leading to numerous wars, tragedies, and humanitarian crises.
On this occasion, the League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine emphasizes that despite the international landscape changing since the Nakba in 1948 and the establishment of a foreign political entity on Palestinian land, this entity continues to commit heinous acts of ethnic cleansing and massacres unparalleled since World War II.
The League strongly emphasizes that the genocidal war waged by the occupation against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip is an extension of the Nakba's repercussions and reflects the complicity of major powers with the occupation and their support for its crimes. It also demonstrates the savage brutality of this criminal entity, its disregard for all humanitarian and international norms, and the urgent need for international intervention to protect human dignity.
The League affirms that all of this would not have happened without the failure of the international community to fulfill its obligations under international law and international humanitarian law, and the evident practice of selective justice by the international system.
The League is astonished by the continued unconditional military, economic, political, and diplomatic support provided to the Zionist entity to commit its crimes against the Palestinian people by countries that claim to champion freedom, democracy, and human rights. This support persists despite the entity's perpetration of genocide, killing of children and women, and violation of international humanitarian law.
On this painful anniversary, The League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine calls upon all free parliamentarians worldwide to work towards achieving the Palestinian people's right to freedom, self-determination, and the establishment of their independent state. It urges them to exert all possible forms of pressure on the occupation and its supporters to comply with international resolutions and respect human rights.
