LP4Q Organizes a Legal Seminar with the Participation of the Turkish Minister of Justice

In the legal seminar held on Saturday on the sidelines of the LP4Q’s fifth conference, experts in international law expressed their disappointment regarding the slow pace of legal proceedings against Israel and the Western legal cover provided for it in its genocidal war committed against civilians in the Gaza Strip.

In an intervention at the legal seminar held on the second day of the League’s conference, Turkish Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç said that genocide and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people by the Israeli occupation have existed long before October 7.

Tunç stated that Israel cannot be called a state because it acts as an organization. He added, “The rights to life, subsistence, security, and property is not secured for the Palestinian people, so why do we not hear the voices of those who claim to defend these rights in the West?”

He said that the Israeli Foreign Minister has published misleading information in a tweet on X platform trying to hide his criminality and attacked the speech of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during the LP4Q conference, but that could not cover up the facts that have become clear to everyone.

Tunç emphasized that “the one who defends the rights in the world is President Erdoğan, and he is the only leader who speaks out about the inadequate world order, so they are pressuring and targeting him.”

“They took away their lands and homes... Did you hear these regimes say anything? All articles in international charters were violated,” the minister argued expressing regret that no precautionary measures have been taken against Israel before October 7.

He stressed that all crimes and violations in Palestine must be held accountable, and Netanyahu must be brought to trial, pointing out that “since 2017, substantiated lawsuits have been filed against Israel, but unfortunately, no one has been able to enforce them.”

Minister Tunç thanked LP4Q, which he supports with all his heart, for organizing this conference at this critical time for the Palestinian issue and in light of the Israeli crimes committed against humanity in the Gaza Strip.

At an earlier time, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz attacked President Erdoğan on X platform with an offensive picture attached to a post.

Ralph Wilde, a professor and specialist in international law appointed to represent the League of Arab States before the International Court of Justice in the settlement case filed with the court, said that the ICJ has made a decision confirming that Israel committed genocide in its war on the Gaza Strip.

Wilde added that Israel has violated all the rules that define genocide, in addition to being an occupying state of land it does not own, stressing that every country has the responsibility and the right to take measures against Israel from a legal standpoint so that such genocide is not repeated.

He explained, “Because Israel is violating international laws, every country has the right to prevent Israeli leaders from traveling, for example, and to pursue additional measures that are not provided for by the law because there is an exceptional case and a violation of the law by Israel.”

Regarding the case in the ICJ, Wilde said that South Africa has filed the case and used this right even though it was not directly harmed and was not subject to the genocide, and everyone must use this right.

Palestinian lawyer specializing in international law Anis Al-Qassem said that Israel has refused to abide by the precautionary decisions issued by the ICJ, tightened its siege, and used all its military forces and the weapon of hunger against civilians in the Gaza Strip.

Al-Qassem emphasized the need to appeal to countries, governments and peoples to boycott Israel, sever relations with it, and take steps to stop the war of genocide rather than wait for the end of proceedings.

Georges-Henri Pottier, Belgian lawyer specializing in international law and human rights, expressed his annoyance at the ICJ’s failure to take any reaction regarding the ongoing crime of genocide in the Gaza Strip, stating that “the ICJ is supposed to be fair.”

Pottier pointed out that the lack of a response to the crime of genocide is fuel for the ongoing crime, stressing the importance of taking action at the legal level and prosecuting war criminals.

In the same context, the president of the Jordanian Bar Association Yahya Abu Aboud stressed that the Israeli Occupation does not need justifications to commit its crimes, as its history is rife with them, and terrorism is considered the most important pillar on which the Zionist movement has relied to occupy Palestine.

Abu Aboud noted that Israel has excelled in breaking and violating the rules of international law and all covenants, committed the most heinous crimes, most notably the crimes of genocide and crimes against humanity, and succeeded in evading punishment.

Palestinian-American Lawyer Lamis Deek mentioned the need to form a lobby to bring about political change and use the power of law and speech. She stressed the need for the parties supporting the Palestinian cause to unite and work in unison within an effective strategy in international forums.

Deek indicated that the lawsuit against Israel in the ICJ faces some legal obstacles, but these limitations must be dealt with to form a strong case. Last, she called for applying pressure on Israel diplomatically and economically while boycotting it on all levels.
