President of the European League: We Need to End the Occupation in Palestine, Not Just Request Aid

The President of the European League, Mr. Michele Piras, stated that what is happening in Palestine has finally shattered the barrier of silence and deception that has surrounded the Palestinian issue for decades.

During a human rights seminar, Piras added that no one can hide or ignore the fact that the state of cleansing and extermination being carried out in Palestinian territories by the Israeli occupation is a direct result of international complacency and support for the occupation. He called for supporting the South Africa case before the International Court of Justice through a wide-ranging campaign and movement.

He continued, "We have become accustomed to the accusation of anti-Semitism, which has been used as a means of flattery and as a way to treat individuals and politicians who dare to criticize the systematic human rights violations and international law in Palestine. Defeating such improper use of the term should be a priority for each and every one of us, for anyone who defends democracy in the continent."

He pointed out that the current situation is a ticking time bomb in the heart of the Mediterranean and the Middle East, and the two-state solution cannot be considered at this moment because it has become an illusion. He added, "What we need is strong action to achieve lasting peace, not just a request for aid. This means one independent Palestinian state and an end to the occupation, an international plan and mission to develop peace factors in Palestine, and ensuring the full right to self-determination for Palestinians."

Piras clarified that a peaceful solution to the Palestinian issue is a direct interest for Europe and a strategic matter for the Union and European countries, for peaceful exchange and cooperation. He continued, "For this reason as well, we need to take action to put an end to the right-wing extremist Netanyahu government, and we should no longer live in the hypocrisy of a democracy under an apartheid regime."
