Public Conference Organized by the National Italian Partizan’s Association (Anpi) Calls for Immediate Ceasefire in Palestine

A public conference organized by Anpi (Italian Antifascist Partizan’s Association) was held yesterday, November 3rd, in Sardinya, with the following main guests: the Mayor of Elmas and the honorable MLC, Mrs.Maria Laura Orrù, the leader of Cgil (the biggest Italian Trade Union); Mr.Fausto Durante, the European President of the League of Parliamentarians for Palestine; Hon.Michele Piras; Mrs.Annamaria Modigliani, a journalist and writer who lived several years in Palestine; and Dr. Doreid Mohammad, chairman of the Lebanese International Association.

The speakers denounced the violation of the Geneva Convention, the disproportionate reaction of Israel, and the alarming humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. The conference called for an immediate ceasefire and the intervention of the United Nations to protect civilians and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid.

During the conference, the leader of the largest Italian trade union, Cgil, Mr. Fausto Durante, expressed disapproval of Hamas' military actions. However, he highlighted that these actions were not isolated but rather stemmed from decades of oppression, brutality, and hatred against the Palestinian people. Mr. Durante emphasized the need for Western countries to stop justifying Israel's war crimes under the guise of self-defense and take a stronger stance against the ongoing genocide. He called for an end to the aggressive and inhumane policies of the far-right Israeli government.

In a passionate speech, Hon. Michele Piras, the European President of the League, echoed the sentiments expressed by the other speakers. He condemned the ideology of a "Great Israel" and urged the institutional community to take a firm stance against the ongoing violence. Mr. Piras emphasized the urgency of the situation and called for immediate action to address the humanitarian crisis and protect the rights of Palestinians.

The conference took place ahead of a demonstration organized by the Sardinya-Palestine Friendship Association in solidarity with the Palestinian people. This event is one of many demonstrations occurring throughout Italy and Europe, demonstrating the widespread concern and support for peace and justice in Palestine.
