A delegation from the Algerian Parliament, consisting of members from both chambers, boycotted the speech of the President of the International Parliamentary Union, Duarte Pacheco, due to his bias towards the Israeli occupation in the genocidal war against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
The Algerian delegation, composed of Vice President of the National People's Assembly, Moundir Bouden, and deputies Farida Ilimi and Mohamed Anwar Bushwit, as well as members of the Council of the Nation, Abdelkader Sahli and Fawzia Benbadis, decided to leave the hall during the opening of the 147th Assembly of the International Parliamentary Union, held in the Angolan capital Luanda, after the President of the Union delivered a speech biased in favor of the occupation in its criminal aggression against Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories.
Joining the Algerian delegation in this boycott were delegations from the Arab Parliament, Palestine, Kuwait, and Iran.
Hamid bin Abdullah Al-Ahmar, President of the League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds, stated that supporting the Palestinian cause and stopping the genocidal war waged by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip is a measure of the effectiveness of Arab and Islamic groups' presence in international parliamentary bodies.
During his speech at the meeting of the Islamic Group on the sidelines of the International Parliamentary Union sessions, Al-Ahmar questioned, "What is the benefit of having the Islamic and Arab groups in the Union if they cannot stop the genocide of the Palestinian people? What is the use of them if they cannot support our just rights and stop the aggression?"
