Malaysia has expressed its strongest condemnation for the storming of the Al Aqsa Mosque by Israeli extremists on Sunday, as well as the subsequent attacks on Palestinian worshippers, according to a statement by the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ministry characterized the assault as a deliberate act of provocation and a clear violation of the sanctity of the holy sites in East Jerusalem, aimed at challenging the historical and legal status of Jerusalem and Al-Haram Al-Sharif.
In the statement, Malaysia called upon the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to fulfill its responsibility by holding the Israeli regime accountable for its continued aggression and disregard for international laws. It emphasized the need to immediately halt all acts of provocation and violence in the interest of peace and security, highlighting the importance of fair and proportionate treatment in resolving the conflict.
The statement also underscored the international community's obligation to address Israel's ongoing assaults and apartheid policies, which infringe upon the fundamental rights, lives, livelihood, and dignity of Palestinians of all faiths in their own land. Malaysia reaffirmed its principled stance supporting the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
According to international media reports, the incident occurred when Israeli security forces expelled worshippers from the mosque and restricted access for Palestinians under the age of 50 to make way for Israeli settlers during Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Subsequently, accompanied and protected by an increased presence of security forces, Israeli settlers made provocative incursions into the mosque.
Several countries, including Saudi Arabia, have also condemned the provocative act, denouncing the storming of the mosque by a group of extremists under the protection of Israeli occupation forces, as reported.
