Amnesty International: "Israel" committed war crimes in its recent aggression on Gaza

Amnesty International:

The Israeli occupation committed war crimes against civilians during its last aggression on the Gaza Strip in May, Amnesty International said.

The organization explained in a statement that "Israel" illegally destroyed the homes of Palestinians in the absence of military necessity during its assault on the Gaza Strip, stressing that "demolitions represent a form of collective punishment against civilians."

"Israel also carried out what appeared to be disproportionate airstrikes, resulting in the death and injury of Palestinian civilians, including children," it said, adding that it investigated nine Israeli airstrikes that killed civilians and damaged and destroyed residential buildings in the Gaza Strip.

It noted that three separate attacks of these raids took place on the first night of the bombing on May 9, when precision-guided bombs targeted three senior commanders of the Al-Quds Brigades, killing ten civilians and wounding at least 20 others.

The organization said that these bombs were fired in densely populated areas inside Gaza City at two o'clock before dawn when families were sleeping in their homes, indicating that those who planned and authorized the attacks expected, and most likely ignored, the disproportionate harm to civilians.

"Deliberately launching disproportionate attacks—a pattern that Amnesty International has documented in previous Israeli operations—is a war crime," it said.

"Israel's impunity for the war crimes it repeatedly commits against Palestinians and its cruel and illegal blockade of the Gaza Strip, which has been ongoing for 16 years, encourages further violations and makes injustice chronic," the organization said.

On May 9, Israel launched an aggression on the Gaza Strip that lasted for five days, resulted in the martyrdom of 33 citizens, including four children and four women, and injured hundreds.
