The US Biden administration has appointed a special representative for Palestinian affairs to improve relations with the Palestinians.

According to a report by Axios, the Biden administration notified Congress on Tuesday that it has appointed Hady Amr as a new special representative for Palestinian affairs, a senior State Department official said. The Washington-based Special Representative for Palestinian Affairs will engage closely with the Palestinians and their leadership and, together with Ambassador [Thomas] Nides and his team, will continue to engage with Israel on Palestinian-related issues.

According to the report, this is the first time the U.S. has created a Washington D.C. based position at the State Department focused solely on Palestinian affairs.

Let it be known that Hadi Amr previously served as the Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Israel and Palestinian Affairs for two years.
