An Israeli website has revealed the latest developments in the administration of United States President Joe Biden's position on the reopening of the United States Consulate for Palestinians in the occupied city of Jerusalem.
"It has been seven months since United States Secretary of State Anthony Plinkin notified Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas of the Biden administration's plan to reopen the United States consulate in Jerusalem, but Washington has not yet provided a timetable for when it plans to complete the move."
"The Biden administration effectively halted its efforts to revive its diplomatic mission to the Palestinians, which was closed by former President Donald Trump in 2019."
The former senior U.S. official said: "Moreover, even the administration's enthusiastic supporters of reopening the consulate have shifted their focus to policies that are likely to affect the daily lives of Palestinians."
The source continued: "What appears to be a change of attitude comes after the strong opposition of Israel, which requires its approval, and at a time when Israel is already preparing to fight with the Biden administration over the latter's insistence on exhausting the diplomatic track in Vienna to revive the Iranian nuclear agreement, the United States is not looking to open a second front by proceeding to reopen the consulate for the time being."
