Olive Tree Harvest Season... Roots that Link Palestinians to the Land

To keep the war going on all fronts, the Zionist settlement wheel in the West Bank continues unabated, while the occupation and settlers continue to tighten the Palestinians, especially during the olive-picking season, turning the joy of the farms into a nightmare that doesn’t pass without destroying trees and cutting livelihoods.

Since the beginning of 2021, the Naftali Government has approved the construction of 2000 settlements and again plans to build 3100 units in seven settlements in the Bank. The anti-settlement "Peace Now" movement made it clear that the High Planning Council of the Zionist Civil Administration would meet Wednesday to approve the construction of these units.

In the Olive War, Palestinians assert that the targeting of the trees by the settlers is not in vain, but rather their hatred of this tree, to which the Palestinians have religious, cultural and economic ties. It is also a long-lived tree and is evidence of the history of Palestinians in their land for thousands of years. If the owner fails to be present against his will, it will remain a witness and preserve his right of the land from which they wish to root him out.

According to United Nations statistics, the occupation destroyed 8,000 olive trees in 2021 by hundreds of settlers who were also stealing olive bags from the harvest. This year, settler crime has doubled by 150% and has been concentrated in the middle and north of the Bank. There are settlement civilian units paid by the occupying Government to implement their expansionist schemes.

In addition, settlers are also poisoning drinking water wells in some areas of the West Bank.
