Critical Health Situation as Palestinians Continue their Hunger Strike

Six Palestinian prisoners continue hunger strike in Israeli jails in protest against their administrative detention, according to the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees.

The longest hunger-striker of the six prisoners is prisoner Kayed Fasfous, who has been on hunger strike for 90 days in protest at his detention without a charge or trial, followed by Muqdad Qawasmeh (83 days), Alaa Aaraj (66 days), Hesham Abu Hawwash (57 days), Rayeq Besharat (52 days), and Shadi Abu Akr (49).

Hasan Abed Rabbo, an attorney of the Commission, said the health condition of Kayed al-Fasfous, who is hospitalized in the Israeli Barzilai Medical Center, has significantly deteriorated as he has lost 30 kg of weight

Qawasmeh and Aaraj also lost 20 kg of their weight as a result of the hunger strike, he added.

On the other hand, the prisoner Zakaria Al-Zubaidi, who has been on hunger strike for 7 days, was moved to the Beersheba prison hospital after his health condition worsened.

Al-Zubaidi was one of the six Palestinian prisoners who escaped Gilboa prison las month before being recaptured after an Israeli large-scale chase.

Since his re-arrest, Al-Zubaidi was isolated in a cell that lacks the basic humanitarian requirements, monitored around the clock by surveillance cameras. He is being violently searched every 15 minutes, according to his brother Yehya.

The Commission, for its part, held the Israeli prison service fully responsible for Al-Zubaidi's life.
