UN: Demolition Operations in the West Bank Raise Concerns

Yesterday Wednesday, the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wensland, emphasized the illegality of Israeli settlement in the occupied Palestinian territories.

"I reiterate that all Israeli settlements are illegal under international law and undermine the prospect of achieving a viable two-State solution consistent with United Nations resolutions, international law and previous conventions," Wensland explained during the monthly meeting of the Security Council on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question.

He expressed deep concern at the continuing demolition and confiscation of Palestinian-owned buildings and urged Israel to stop demolitions and evictions, in line with its obligations under international law.
