Palestine Demands the Need for International Protection and Explained the “Serious Security Condition” In Gaza

The representative of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, Ambassador Riad Mansour, stressed the need for the international community to provide international protection to the Palestinian people in accordance with international law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention, and stressed the importance of holding Israel accountable as the only way to put an end to all its grave violations, at a time when Hussein Al-Sheikh, member of the Fatah Central Central Committee, stressed that the establishment of the State did not require permisson of the occupying power.

In identical letters to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the General Assembly and the President of the Security Council for this month (India), Ambassador Mansour gave a full explanation of what he called the "critical security situation" of the Palestinians inside the besieged Gaza Strip.

He noted the continuing repeated Israeli attacks and the deterioration of humanitarian, social and economic conditions there.

In his letters, Mansour said that, in violation of the 21 May ceasefire, Israel had used excessive and indiscriminate force against Palestinian civilians in Gaza who had gathered near the fence, where the occupying forces had fired live bullets at demonstrators, injuring 41 civilians, including 22 children, one of whom had been shot in the head, as well as launching military air strikes on areas in the Gaza Strip.

The incident was not the first time that Israel had violated the ceasefire that had been reached, following widespread destruction and extensive Palestinian civilian casualties by Israel.

"Indeed, Israel's attacks against the Gaza Strip have not stopped, and unfortunately Israel has not been held accountable for its crimes and violations against Palestinian civilians," he said.

Israel continued to impede reconstruction efforts in Gaza, maintaining its blockade and restrictions on necessary reconstruction and recovery materials, as well as humanitarian assistance, despite the valiant efforts of the United Nations, including the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), WFP, UNICEF, UNDP, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the United Nations Body for Women and other humanitarian organizations to provide urgent support.

The Palestinian Ambassador once again called on the international community to act immediately to lift the Israeli blockade of Palestinian civilians in Gaza and the need for their unimpeded access to humanitarian, relief and reconstruction needs.

At the same time, he cautioned against the "grave dangers" posed by the escalation of violence caused by Israel's policies in Gaza and throughout the occupied territory, including East Jerusalem.
