Palestine: The Absence of Accountability Provokes “Israel” to Disrespect International Law

Palestine said on Tuesday, that the failure in guaranteeing accountability makes “Israel” disrespect International Law.

Under three identical letters sent from the Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, Riad Mansour, addressed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the Security Council and the President of the General Assembly of the United Nations concerning the grave crimes that Israel continues to commit in Palestine, according to the official Palestinian news agency.

Mansour called on the international community to act immediately to put an end to the killing of Palestinian civilians by the occupation.

He stressed that such repeated crimes "require continued advocacy by the international community to provide international protection to the Palestinian people in accordance with international law and stressed the need to bring about the International Criminal Court as a legitimate means of ensuring justice for the victims of this illegal and cruel occupation."

Mansour stressed the need for the international community, in particular the Security Council, to move beyond repeated statements and convictions and to take urgent and decisive action to achieve justice.

These include the actions mentioned by Mansour in his letters, "the closure of markets for Israeli settlement products, the imposition of an arms embargo on the occupying Power and the support of the International Criminal Court in its consideration of the situation in Palestine."

In his letters, Mansour revealed the martyrdom of four young Palestinians yesterday by Israeli occupying forces in the city and camp of Jenin.

Mansour also addressed the policy of Israeli displacement through the demolition of houses and the destruction of property in East Jerusalem.

On 10 August, the occupying forces had demolished an apartment building in the district of Silwan, displaced 12 members of the Al-Awda family and, the following day, displaced 25 members of the Khadr family after forcing them to demolish their own home in Beit Hanina.

Mansour also drew attention to Israel's recent announcement to build more than 2,000 settlement units in the occupied West Bank.

With regard to the Gaza Strip, Mansour noted that the besieged Strip had been subjected to Israeli air strikes, causing damage to infrastructure in Beit Lahia, Jabalia and Gaza City.
