JOINT EFFORT BY LP4Q WITH THE MALAYSIAN PARLIAMENT TO DENOUNCE THE ISRAELI ANNEXATION PLAN

The Malaysian Parliament on Wednesday, announced its intention to submit   a petition to condemn the Israeli plan to annex parts of the West Bank and the Jordan Valley to both the American and Palestinian embassies next Monday, in a joint effort with The League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds (LP4Q).
Member of the Executive Committee of LP4Q, and Deputy in the Malaysian Parliament (Dewan Rakyat), Ledang MP Syed Noh Syed Ibrahim, said at a press conference that over 130 MPs from the government and the opposition had signed the petition which had  six recommendations.
He said it will also be delivered to the Inter-Parliamentary Union and Regional Parliamentary Unions such as Asean Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).
Among others, the petition called for the expulsion of Israel from the United Nations and its agencies.
“I wish to announce today that the petition has been signed by more than 130 MPs from the government and opposition. They have indicated solidarity and support of the motion and its recommendations,” he told a press conference at the Parliament building here today.
Syed Ibrahim said the reason for the petition follows Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent remark that his plan to annex portions of the Israel-occupied West Bank “isn’t off the table”  even though the July 1 plan did not proceed as scheduled.
Netanyahu also said that despite the constraints of the Covid-19 pandemic and resistance from many parties, the controversial plan would proceed.
Syed Ibrahim said Israel’s track record of flagrant violation of agreements, UN resolutions and international law is testimony of intent to annex.
“I’m afraid Israel will continue to violate Palestine’s sovereignty and directly oppress Palestinians,” he said.
Syed Ibrahim also called on lawmakers in other countries to join the effort to demand the US and Israel halt the annexation plan.
“This is not about religion, as there are Muslims, Jews and Christians in Palestine. This is about sovereignty and the desire to live peacefully and harmoniously on their own land, property and with their family,” he said.
For his part, Dr. Mohammad Makram Balawi, LP4Q’s General Director, praised the Malaysian stance, “which comes as part of the LP4Q’s efforts to confront the annexation plan.”
Balawi said that LP4Q continues its engagement with various parliaments to take steps similar of the Malaysian Parliament, stressing that the parliamentary actions have an impact on the Arab, Islamic and international levels. He pointed out that the LP4Q continues its efforts to resist the normalization of relations with Israeli. Israel should not be rewarded for the occupation, as it would encourage it to commit more crimes against the Palestinian people.
