Premier calls for immediate release of Jerusalem Minister

Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh called today upon the Israeli occupation authorities to immediate release the Minister of Jerusalem Affairs, Faid Hadmi, who was arrested by Israeli police from his house in the city last night.
Shtayyeh called upon the international community and the European Union to pressure Israel to release Hadmi and to condemn the Israeli policies in the holy city. He said the latest Israeli measures in Jerusalem, the latest of which was the arrest of Hadmi, destroy any future opportunity to engage in a political process.
He said despite Israel’s arrest of the Jerusalem Affairs Minister, the government will remain committed to the welfare, development and resilience of the city’s Palestinian population living under Israel’s occupation.
Meanwhile, the prime minister condemned the recent Israeli crackdown on the neighborhood of al-Issawiya in the city in which one Palestinian was killed and dozens others injured or arrested.
