INDONESIAN PARLIAMENT: IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR OUR COUNTRY TO NORMALIZE RELATIONS WITH ISRAEL

“Israel pressured Indonesia a lot to force it to normalize relations with it, while the United States offered $2 billion to improve economic conditions in return, but we’ve refused that unequivocally” said Dr. Fadli Zon, chair for inter-parliamentary cooperation at the Indonesian House of Representatives & Vice President of (league of parliamentarians for Al-Quds) LP4Q

during a webinar organized by LP4Q entitled "Why Indonesia won't normalize relations with Israel?", Dr. Zon added That the status of the Palestinian cause is getting worse due to the blind bias of the United States towards Israel and its ignorance of the rights of the Palestinian people, explaining that the Trump administration has pressured many Arab and Islamic countries to sing normalization agreements.

He stressed that the Indonesian president, foreign minister and parliament clearly rejected the idea of normalizing relations with Israel, noting that normalization would be politically beneficial to Israel only and would be considered a landslide victory for it and a setback for the rights of the Palestinian people and the international justice.

Dr. Zon stressed that it is impossible for Jakarta to normalize relations with the Israeli occupation, stressing that Israel is a colonial entity that occupied the Palestinian territories, and normalization with it would be contrary to the Indonesian constitution.

Dr. Zon noted that the recent normalization agreements have encouraged Israel to continue its violations against the Palestinian people and increased the pace of illegal settlements’ construction in the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem, calling on the international community to confront settlements’ building which undermines international resolutions and the two-state solution.

He expressed his hope that the new US administration led by President-elect Joe Biden would rectify the wrong decisions made by Donald Trump regarding the Palestinian cause, calling on Washington not to be an obstacle to the rights of the Palestinian people guaranteed by international laws.

He continued, "We will work through parliamentary channels with the Indonesian government to persuade the OIC to fill the gap which was created by the Trump administration when it cut off financial aid to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA)."

The MP called on the international community to recognize the Palestinian state and support it in international forums and to strengthen a boycott campaign of the occupation politically and economically, through parliaments and civil society organizations.
