The Jordanian government on Thursday renewed its rejection of the US president Donald Trump’s decision to move his country’s embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and described it as “legally void”.

Official spokesman for the Jordanian government Mohammed al-Momani said that the US Jerusalem move harms the peace process, adding that the absence of a just solution to the Palestinian cause causes frustration and despair and fuels extremism in the region.

Al-Momani said that Jordan believes that the US decision is unilateral, does not serve the peace process, and will not lead to a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Trump wrote on Twitter on Wednesday that his administration is planning to transfer the embassy next May on the 70th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba.

US vice president Mike Pence announced earlier that his country’s embassy in Jerusalem will be opened by the end of 2019.

Trump on 6th December 2017 recognized Jerusalem with its eastern and western parts as the capital of Israel and announced his intention to move the US embassy in Israel to the holy city sparking widespread condemnation.
