Indonesian MP Rofi Munawar in a Press Release: "Trump Policy in Acknowledging Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel is Counterproductive"

Vice Chairman of Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Body (BKSAP) of the House of Representatives of Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) Rofi Munawar assessed the plan of President of the United States Donald Trump in supporting the capital transfer of Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is very counterproductive in conflict resolution of Palestine. Beside conflicting with international resolutions, on the other hand it will make the tension peaking in the Middle East.
“Moving the Israel capital to Jerusalem, in fact, will increase the conflict and tension continuously in the Middle East. It happens because Jerusalem is one of the major epicentrum of struggle for Palestine, especially the existence of Al Quds,” Rofi Munawar said in the press release submitted to media on Tuesday (5/11) in Jakarta.
This Legislator from East Jawa added that relocation of the United States Embassy along with the plan of establishing Jerusalem as Israel capital was one of the Trump’s campaign promises during the presidential election. Ironically, this foreign policy of the United States is very disadvantageous and does not consider the interests of Palestine.
“So far, Trump has clearly stated in making Jerusalem and Palestine as campaign commodity in the presidential election in order to seek support from Jews,” regretted the members of the House of Representatives from PKS faction.
Rofi also explained some reasons why Jerusalem couldn’t become the Israel capital, including the resolution issued by the UNESCO Cultural Heritage Commission which decided on the loss of Israel sovereignty toward Al-Quds. In addition, for Muslims, the existence of Jerusalem has a long history in the process of struggle against Israel.
“Internasional Communities and United Nations must take a firm stance toward Donal Trump’s plan. Furthermore, OIC should take more proactive initiative in responding this issue,” concluded Rofi.
As known, the Foreign Minister of Palestine Riad al-Maliki on Sunday (3/12) urged the Arab League and Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to hold meeting immediately in order to discuss about recent political condition in Jerusalem. The urge came following a report that the United States President Donald Trump is preparing to acknowledge Jerusalem as the capital of Israel now.
