Details of the first day of the Cairo gathering

A set of key files were discussed during the round of Palestinian reconciliation talks held at the Egyptian Intelligence headquarters in Cairo.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, an official said the list of files discussed at the meeting includes national elections, security management, the Palestine Liberation Organization, the consensus government, and inter-communal reconciliation.
According to the same source, the Fatah delegates initially intended to discuss the empowerment of the Palestinian Authority in the blockaded Gaza Strip. However, the other factions present at the gathering made sure that all files be given equal footing.
He added that no agreement has been yet reached as regards the appointment of committees or representatives of Egyptian security delegations to pop in the enclave.
The source also said that all national factions stressed the need to implement the terms of the 2011 Cairo-brokered deal.
A final statement is expected to be issued at the end of the round of talks, slated to be wrapped up on Thursday.
The official said the first series of talks kicked off at 11:00 a.m. and lasted for 11 hours nonstop.
Senior delegates from national Palestinian factions arrived in Cairo on Monday to take part in reconciliation talks carried out under the mediation of the Egyptian intelligence. The talks come just a few weeks after a reconciliation deal struck between Fatah and Hamas on October 12 signaled the launch of the Palestinian Authority mission in the besieged enclave of Gaza.
