Today, Wednesday, the League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds and Palestine hosted a Jordanian parliamentary delegation at its headquarters, led by the First Deputy Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives, Mustafa Al-Khasawneh, to discuss the developments in the Palestinian issue, especially the displacement plans and ongoing Israeli aggressions, and to explore mechanisms for Arab and Islamic parliamentary coordination to address them.
During the meeting, which was convened at the invitation of the League, its head, Mr. Hamid bin Abdallah Al-Ahmar, emphasized the pivotal role of the Jordanian House of Representatives in supporting the Palestinian cause, noting that Jordan is most closely connected to Palestine on political, popular, and parliamentary levels.
Mr. Hamid praised the steadfast positions of His Majesty King Abdullah II in the face of international pressures, especially from the United States, which try to legitimize the occupation and resolve the Palestinian issue.
He highlighted the close cooperation between the League and the Jordanian House of Representatives, where several Jordanian MPs have been participating in the League's activities since its establishment, commending the presence of a permanent committee for Palestine within the Jordanian parliament, which serves as a model that should be emulated in Arab and Islamic parliaments for its significant role in enhancing the Palestinian stance both regionally and internationally.
The First Deputy Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives, Mustafa Al-Khasawneh, affirmed that this visit came at a sensitive time when the Palestinian issue is experiencing a serious escalation, emphasizing the three Jordanian "Nos": "No to displacement, no to resettlement, no to alternative homeland," which represent Jordanian national constants and Arab and international convictions.
Al-Khasawneh stressed the importance of leveraging Jordanian positions that support Palestine in international forums, the necessity of exerting pressure to confront settlement activities, and to stop the violations committed by the occupation forces against Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and occupied Jerusalem.
He noted that the meeting also discussed the Israeli occupation's stance towards the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and the need to counter the occupation's attempts to end its role, as well as affirming the importance of the Hashemite custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and the necessity to preserve it as a guarantee to protect the identity of the city, and the rejection of any temporal and spatial division of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Al-Khasawneh added that Jordan categorically rejects all plans aimed at resolving the Palestinian issue or imposing solutions that do not align with the free will of the Palestinian people, emphasizing their right to self-determination as guaranteed by international covenants.
The chairman of the Palestine Committee in the House of Representatives, MP Suleiman Al-Saud, explained that there is a shared goal between the League and the House to bolster Arab and international efforts to support the Palestinian cause, emphasizing the need to mobilize Arab, Islamic, and international public opinion to counter the occupation's aggressions and displacement plans in the West Bank, Gaza, and occupied Jerusalem.
Al-Saud indicated that both parties agreed on the importance of activating the role of Arab and Islamic parliaments in enhancing international resolutions related to Palestine, and pushing towards establishing permanent committees for Palestine within Arab parliaments similar to the Palestine Committee in the Jordanian House of Representatives, to be among the most influential parliamentary committees in shaping Arab and international political decisions.
This visit, at the invitation of the League, reaffirms the importance of uniting Arab and international parliamentary efforts to support the Palestinian cause and to confront the plans that threaten the Palestinian existence in Jerusalem and other occupied territories.
The Jordanian delegation participating in the visit is headed by His Excellency Dr. Mustafa Al-Khasawneh, the First Deputy Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives, His Excellency Mr. Suleiman Al-Saud, chairman of the Palestine Committee, and MPs: Yusuf Al-Rawadieh, Mohammad Al-Mahamid, Ahmad Alayimat, Mohammad Salameh Al-Ghweiri, Ibrahim Al-Sarayrah, Musa Al-Wahsh, and Raed Al-Qatamin.
This visit represents a significant step in enhancing joint parliamentary work to support the Palestinian cause, especially amid the unprecedented challenges facing the Palestinian people, which require firm stances and broad international solidarity.
