A delegation from the League of Parliamentarians for al-Quds and Palestine held a meeting, Monday, with the Secretary-General of the Arab Parliamentary Union, Dr. Ahmed bin Alawi Baaboud, in the Lebanese capital Beirut.
The delegation included the Secretary-General of the League, Dr. Mohammad Makram Balawi, and the Head of the International Relations Department, Eng. Abdullah Al-Beltaji.
The League's delegation congratulated Dr. Baaboud on his appointment as the new Secretary-General of the Union, wishing him success in continuing the Union's march and the recognized role it plays in serving the Palestinian cause in parliamentary forums at the regional and international levels.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed enhancing cooperation between the League and the Union, and the mechanisms of parliamentary action to work on stopping the genocide war in the Gaza Strip and the aggression against the Palestinian people, and ensuring the accountability of the Israeli occupation for its crimes.
The delegation expressed its confidence that the joint effort between the League and the Union will work to enhance the parliamentary positions related to the Palestinian issue in various forums, contributing to supporting the rights of the Palestinian people and their just cause.
The two sides stressed that parliamentary work is an important pivot to support the Palestinian cause globally, emphasizing the need to exchange visits in order to discuss political and parliamentary events and discuss joint and contextual activities.
The Arab Parliamentary Union had unanimously announced the appointment of Dr. Ahmed bin Alawi Baaboud as Secretary-General of the Arab Parliamentary Union, during the 36th conference of the Union held in Algeria.
