A delegation from the League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds and Palestine participated in the proceedings of the 36th Conference of the Arab Parliamentary Union, held in the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria on May 26-27, 2024.
The delegation, chaired by the Vice President of the League, Dr. Ahmed Kharchi, included the Secretary-General of the League, Dr. Mohammad Makram Balawi, and the Head of the Relations Department at the League, Eng. Abdullah Al-Baltaji.
The Secretary-General of the League emphasized that the conference is an opportunity to discuss the current situation in Palestine and Gaza, in order to come up with ideas and recommendations that serve the Palestinian cause in the Arab parliaments.
The participating delegation praised the statement issued by the Arab Parliamentary Union during the conference, which welcomed the decision issued by the International Court of Justice last Friday, in which the Zionist entity was ordered to stop its military operation in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip. The statement also highlights the importance of the timing of the issuance of this decision and what it indicates about the lack of commitment of the usurping entity to the previous decision of the court.
The League has observer status in the Arab Parliamentary Union, in addition to observer membership in the Union of the Councils of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the African Parliamentary Union, the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption, and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly.
