The League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds held a meeting with the parliamentary bloc of the ruling African National Congress (ANC) party in the South African Parliament.
The meeting discussed enhancing cooperation and communication with the South African Parliament and other parliamentary blocs, working to support the prosecution of Israeli war criminals in international courts, as well as supporting the League's membership in international parliaments and institutions. They also agreed on appointing a representative for Palestine within the party and the bloc.
Sheikh Hamid bin Abdullah Al-Ahmar, the President of the League, affirmed that the League's visit to South Africa comes at a critical and dangerous time for the Palestinian cause, Gaza, and Al-Aqsa Mosque, pointing out that the visit comes because the League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds realizes the importance of the genuine position of the State of South Africa in support of just causes, most notably the Palestinian issue.
Sheikh Al-Ahmar condemned American and Western support and participation in the genocide against the Palestinian people, which represents a violation of all humanitarian and international values and laws. He criticized the use of the United States' veto power against a Security Council resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, considering it a direct endorsement and support from Washington for the Israeli occupation's genocidal plan against civilians in Gaza. He stated that this serves as a green light to continue committing further massacres.
He renewed the call for international, regional, and local organizations to take serious and genuine stances to stop the genocide being carried out by the occupation against the Palestinian people with brutality and savagery.
A delegation from the League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds participated in the fifth International Forum in Solidarity with Palestine, held in Johannesburg, South Africa, under the auspices of the "Global Return Campaign to Palestine," which brings together numerous non-governmental organizations supporting Palestine from over 40 countries worldwide. The forum commemorated the tenth anniversary of Nelson Mandela's death.
In addition to the President of the League, the delegation included a member of the executive committee and a Turkish MP in the Turkish Parliament, Hasan Turan; the Director General of the League, Dr. Mohammad Makram Balawi; and the Head of the Public Relations Department in the League, Abdullah Al-Baltaji.
