A delegation of the League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds (Europe League) held a series of meetings with parliamentary figures and British institutions to discuss the formation of a European parliamentary network in support of the rights of the Palestinian people.
The League's delegation included a member of the League's executive body, the President of the League of Europe, and former member of the Italian Parliament, Michele Piras, and a deputy in the Italian Parliament, Davide Tripiedi.
The delegation held meetings with a member of the British House of Commons, MP Bambos Charalambos, and a youth organization operating in London called "Another Europe is Possible", consisting of Italian immigrants and political activists, who have strong ties with many British MPs, and a delegation from the European-Palestinian Forum "Europal", in order to consolidate Relations and finding forms of cooperation in England and Ireland.
Michele explained that the meetings are part of the League's efforts to build a strong and effective European network of parliamentarians, to support Palestine and develop awareness-raising movements in all European parliaments about the occupation's attacks on the Palestinian people and the violation of international law and United Nations resolutions in the Palestinian territories.
He also indicated that there is a widespread cultural crisis in Europe about the reality of what is happening in the Palestinian territories, resulting from misleading Israeli propaganda supported by "Islamophobia" movements, which made it difficult to confront the occupation's attacks and work for Palestine in Europe.
Michele pointed out that everyone fears being accused of anti-Semitism in return for a word, speech or declaration issued in favor of the Palestinian people, noting that "these conditions scared many European MPs and forced them to renege on their positions."
